Poquoson is Native American and roughly translates to “great marsh.” That might explain the pterodactyl sized mosquitoes that swarm the community year-round.
Here at Poquoson’s Municipal Park you can find the city’s swimming pool, home of the Barracudas competitive swim team, picnic shelters, and youth baseball and football practice fields. It is also the site for the annual Poquoson Seafood Festival (October) – a great time and interesting events like work-boat races, music bands, craft stands, vendors, a variety of local foods, and a spectacular fireworks display, all celebrating Poquoson’s heritage and fun for all.
This cache is along the Municipal Park’s walking trail and has the permission of the Poquoson Parks and Recreation staff. It is important to approach the cache from the walking trail and NOT the private driveway on the other side of the fence. Several cachers have described the homeowner opposite the fence as not a geocaching fan!
Plenty of parking and a short walk and your there! Coordinates are the average of three GPS measurements, so expect a little GPS signal bounce due to the tree coverage. Cache is too small for any TBs and only room for a log (you'll understand once you find it)! DAY time cache please!!
Stealth is vital to preserve this cache from the watchful eyes of muggles and others out to enjoy the trail or walking their dog. PLease cache back exactly as you found it.
Enjoy this and other caches in the Poquoson community. While here, check out the many interesting exhibits in Poquoson highlighting historic lineage with local “Salt Life” and area sea creatures.
