Two of my favorite hobbies are birding and geocaching. I decided to try and combine the two by placing some geocaches in some of my birding hotspots. Whether you like to hit the road in search of that rare bird (or that elusive cache) or just enjoy watching the birds at your feeder through your living room window (or that easy P&G), I hope you enjoy these caches and the areas they bring you to.
The Schulze Nature Preserve (SNP) is 22.76 acres of forested hillside in the Washington City limits that was once a part of the 200 acre Schulze family farm. It is currently owned and managed by Ozark Regional Land Trust (ORLT). There are 2 hiking trails. The yellow trail is 0.25 mile and the red trail is 1.1 miles. The two trails do overlap some, so you can turn this into about a 1.5 mile figure eight-ish hike.
This was just made an eBird hotspot and after just a few visits, there have already been over 30 different bird species observed either by actual sightings or by hearing their calls/songs (as of 5-21-18). On my first visit here, I was able to see a Kentucky Warbler. It is common in moist woodlands with dense understory. It is a rather secretive warbler; more often heard than seen. It is a terrestrial bird, which means it primarily stays on the ground, but will forage and sing in low to middle levels of vegetations. It forages for food by picking over foliage and branches and overturning leaves.
