Welcome to the Take A Hike geo-art series at Pocahontas State Park. This geo-art series offers a great opportunity to get outside, breathe in some fresh air, enjoy nature, get some exercise, maybe spot some wildlife, and -- of course -- find a bunch of caches. All caches are placed within Pocahontas State Park along dirt and gravel multi-use forest roads/trails accessible by foot...or bike, if you're looking for a faster pace.
While no single cache is very difficult to get to, getting to ALL of them collectively will require some effort....approximately 10 & 1/2 miles of effort. If you attempt the entire series in a single day, please be prepared with plenty of water, a hiker's first aid kit, and spare battery power for your GPSr.
As with most geo-art series, there are a few guidelines:
- Cache is NOT at the posted coordinates. Answer the question correctly for the correct coordinates.
- RAF - Replace As Found (or as intended)
- Watch for clues along the way for the bonus cache.
- Be careful.
- Have Fun.
On May 2nd, 2000, an event called "selective availability" occurred at a secret gov't location that changed geocaching forever. That event led to which beneficial event in geocaching history?
N37 23.553 W077 31.734 -- HikeVirginia relocated from North Carolina to Virginia
N37 23.721 W077 31.825 -- the U.S government discontinued its use of Selective Availability in order to make GPS more responsive to civil and commercial users worldwide.
