Geocache Description:


Here you will find yourself at the entrance to the Yarralumla Brickworks.

The Yarralumla brickworks was one of the earliest construction projects in Canberra. It was built in Yarralumla to produce the bricks used to build many of Canberra's early buildings. It operated from 1913 until 1976.

Since that time it has been used for many purposes! Including, but not limited to:
- 1986-1996 Antiques & Furniture Restoration
- 1988-1998 Brickworks Design Studio
- 1989-1996 Splinters Theatre Company
- 1994-2022 Thor's Hammer

Thor’s Hammer design and make furniture from recycled timbers. For example they made the tables in Capital Brewing’s new brewery at Dairy Road in Fyshwick.

However, sadly, the site is to be redeveloped! The brickworks site will be redeveloped to include up to 380 new homes around the heritage buildings. Thor's Hammer has already been relocated. The former brick quarry will become "Quarry Park" with a small lake, and the railway remnants behind the site bordering the golf course open to the public. So find this cache quick! It may seen disappear!

If you have time - go for a wander around the perimeter. Take a look at it now, before the bulldozers come!
