This cache is placed in one of the most interesting and frequented (by tourists) corners of Penang. It lies just steps away from the entrance to Khoo Kongsi, arguably the most stunning of the myriad Chinese clan houses in Penang. Lebuh Aceh Mosque is only steps away in the other direction, and many other fascinating clan houses, temples and museums lie in the blocks surrounding the site. Only a few blocks away, the famous weld quays never fail to fascinate visitors. Over the road, in one of the most famous of Penang's wall paintings, a boy teeters on a chair while trying to reach something (get a photo of yourself helping him), and just behind the cache, a yellow-eyed tabby gazes out a "window" in the wall art. Here, also, is one of the clever 52 wrought iron artworks by SCULPTUREATWORK, commissioned by the Penang State Government in 2009. This one about a cannon blast and the reason for the naming of Cannon Street. It's worth a look, and take the time to read some of the fascinating stories on the iron artworks. Parking can be difficult to find in the neighbourhood, but the whole area is pedestrian-friendly and a walk to GZ (from car or public transport) is always interesting.
Please heed our WARNING, though- the cache is not on any of the artwork, but it is close. It is very well hidden, in clear view, serving a useful purpose. Another WARNING- regardless of the time of your visit, there will likely be many tourists around, but you shouldn't have to jostle with the tourists while finding the cache as they will be posing for photos over the road with the cannon. Try not to draw attention to yourself by exclaiming loudly in surprise when you finally work out where the log book is, just use the level surface to do your signing and please ensure you replace it STRAIGHT AND NEAT so it looks like it belongs. We recommend you bring your own permanent marker (most successful) or good ball-point pen to sign the log. Don't use a water-soluble pen, nor pencil. The cache cannot fit swaps or trackables, it is log-only cache. Please take note of the difficulty rating and expect to take a little time to work out where the cache is.
Enjoy your time in Penang and finding our sneaky little hide in tourist-central!
