Geocache Description:

You are looking for a regular sized container at Staatsburgh Historic Site. The photographs in the cache are to remain in the cache – do not take.

Hopefully you noticed the line of evergreen trees as you walked here…

In 1900, Ruth Livingston Mills, applied to the Town Board of Hyde Park to have Old Post Road diverted 100 yards east through her estate, to improve the appearance of the approach to her Staatsburgh mansion and give her additional privacy.  In 1902, the diversion was completed, but this angered her neighbor to the north, Clarence G. Dinsmore, who lived at the Locust estate, which still borders Staatsburgh today.  A legal skirmish erupted between the families, with Mrs. Mills proving the victor. The Millses then planted a broad band of evergreen trees on the border between the estates, which can still be seen today.  At least the golf course is named Dinsmore!
