Bonnybridge was once served by 3 railway stations. Bonnybridge Central was opened in 1888 and was on the Glasgow - Kilsyth - Bonnybridge - Larbert line. It was closed to passenger traffic in 1935. Goods traffic did continue on the line until the indistry faded and the line closed completely in 1964.
This is the only one of the 3 stations that you can still see some of the layout. The other two have been wiped out by developments to the existing railway and housing. Luckily this has been preserved as a beautiful garden, the original trackbed forming the long, straight path through the gardens, and the Royal Hotel at the end of it has been there all this time, formely serving customers of the railway. As you can see from the photo the houses that line Wellpark Terrace have been there for a long time too!
This is a magnetic micro cache.
Congrats to Scotbrain for FTF!
