Geocache Description:

Camouflage is a complex subject and the easiest way to hide something is simply to take it away from the field of view. If the object can’t be moved or hidden then covering it in camouflage is the next best method. For people it’s a case of dressing up in a suitable suit to blend in with the background and taking steps to avoid silhouette, shine and the like. Some objects are far too large to move. The cooling tower at Stonebridge Park Power Station near Wembley in London was a classic example in WW2.
Cooling towers are a fantastically visible landmark from the air due to their size and uniform colour. It was felt that by disguising the tower with different contrasts of colour and painting house type images on the side it would fool observers in the air and make navigation that little bit more difficult.

Colin Moss and a team of artists were employed by the Ministry of Home Security’s Camouflage Directorate to apply the camouflage. Although the area was bombed during the war, the power station lived on into the 1970s complete with WW2 camouflage in place so, it may well have fooled enemy pilots or it simply ‘got lucky’.

Like the cooling tower, the cache is hidden in plain sight and simply trying to blend in and not be noticed. A seasoned cacher will grab it instantly but then again, perhaps not...
