AR_Sherlock Season 3 Mystery Cache

Geocaching HQ Admin: From June 06, 2018 until March 06, 2019, Geocaching HQ conducted an Augmented Reality (AR) experiment. During that time, cache owners were allowed to submit Mystery Caches that required the finder to download and use an AR app to find the cache. The goal of the experiment was to see how the geocaching community would use AR technology. Cache owners placed more than 600 AR caches around the world!

Unfortunately, the AR apps which met HQ’s requirements for the experiment have been or are currently in the process of being discontinued. As a result, it is currently not possible for finders to have the AR experience that was originally intended. Therefore, HQ has decided to archive all active AR caches placed during the experiment period. We are respectfully requesting that all AR cache owners please remove the cache container and contents as soon as possible.

As technology evolves, we look forward to seeing how Augmented Reality might have future applications for geocaching. Thank you to all cache owners who participated in the experiment!

Geocache Description:


Introduction

The queen was so happy with the great achievement of the national soccer team in the world cup.
Til the end of this year, the main hall of Palace is open to the public, people can have a close look on those invaluable royal collections, including the largest blue diamond in the world, "Blue Heart".

Story

Security Manager (SM): Let's take a routine security check on each item, please zoom in each item one by one.
Officer (OCR): Okay, sir, the CCTV will show each item followed by alphabetical order.
SM: Hold on, wait a second! Please go back to the camera of "Blue Heart".
OCR: Alright, here it is. The Blue Heart was still there, what's wrong with it?
SM: Do you know why we named that as "Blue Heart"?
OCR: Of course, becoz it is the largest blu........ WHAT! "Blue Heart" is NOT blue anymore, it becomes transparent!
SM: Someone seems replaced the "Blue Heart" with a normal "Prism", please use the leased line to contact Sherlock! We may need his help... for the 3rd time...

User guide for this cache

AR cache is a bit similar to wherigo cache, you need:
  • a smart phone, either android or iphone
  • download a dedicated AR apps
  • access the "experience" (i.e. cartridge in wherigo)
  • visit certain waypoints with the app

Start experience within 30m

When you load the experiences, you will see 4 stages on that, you are advised to follow that sequence for easy caching.
Each stage can ONLY be played within 30m of defined waypoint, you can check the map inside metaverse or use the following waypoints.
  • 1. Laughing Corner: N22 17.011 E114 11.227
  • 2. Golden Gate Bridge: N22 17.020 E114 11.340
  • 3. Roller Skating Rink: N22 17.045 E114 11.429
  • 4. Final: Same as stage 3

At each waypoint, you will interact with different characters, simply follow the instruction, then you can get the cache easily.

Final note before you go caching

  1. AR cache is a experimental cache type so far, if you encounter any difficulty, please feel free to leave a note and contact CO.
  2. Different AR cache may use different AR app, there is slight different among them.
  3. For this cache, we use "metaverse", this app require active internet access, if you started the experience and nothing pop up, be patient, most likely, it is network issue.
  4. Once you completed that cache, that's a list of AR cache in the world, you may be interested to try the others.
