I’ve been driving past this cemetery twice a day for several years, now. About a year ago, I decided this would be a good place for a cache. I’m finally getting around to placing one here!
According to their website:
“The Centerville Cemetery Association was formed on December 29, 1894, for the purpose of organizing, maintaining and overseeing the needs of the Centerville Cemetery, which is located in Centerville, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The Cemetery is approximately one acre in size. The first lot was purchased by Emanuel Siefert on January 31, 1895.
On June 4, 1895, the directors met and agreed that John Maley, Jacob Shenk and Abraham Bossler pay one hundred dollars each as their prorate share of the Cemetery grounds.”
A hundred dollars was a lot of money in those days! Today, that same investment would be approximately $2,810.83 per person. Hence the name of the cache.
You can read more on the history of the cemetery at http://centervillecemetery.org.
This cache is hidden somewhere on the outside of the fence that surrounds the cemetery. Remember to be respectful of the property, and no night caching, please. You can park in the church parking lot. This church is no longer being used.
Congrats to glerby & BethKatzPA for their co-FTFs! And to mightyZdash for breaking that 100 mark!
