Geocache Description:

#17 Sunshine Coast traffic signal box art trail

The unassertive traffic signal box is often overlooked as it sits at intersections and roadsides in metropolitan areas. Urban Smart Projects, a community art initiative, has made it their mission to bring colour and art to cities and help fight graffiti. (www.urbansmartprojects.com)

Follow this trail around the Sunshine Coast and admire the original designs reflecting the vibrancy, character and stories of the community. I have included a statement from each artist about their artwork. The geocaches on this trail should be fairly quick to find to prevent cachers being too conspicuous searching in these high muggle traffic zones.

You may also like to sing Monty Python’s song, “I like Traffic Lights” on your way to keep you in the mood. (www.montypython.net)

I like traffic lights, I like traffic lights.

There were originally 2 signal boxes side by side in this location:

Putting Wurtulla on the Map – painted by Miles Allen – June, 2016. This reproduction of a Google map of the suburb of Wurtulla gives the suburb prominence. The other suburbs are not given any details. This isn’t to say that they don’t exist, rather that whilst you are in Wurtulla, this is the suburb which is important, this is the one that matters. Residents can take pride in this work, they can look for their street and see the boundary of their suburb. The different colours of the sea (using the artist’s distinct geometric and abstract style) are intended to show how bright, beautiful and varied it can be.

Our Glasshouse Mountains – painted by Miles Allen – June, 2016. The Glasshouse Mountains are synonymous with the Sunshine Coast. Known for a variety of reasons including their beauty and majesty, this portrayal is intended to show them in a different way, using the artist’s geometric and abstract style. With a range of colours and lines, the unmistakable outline rises from the bush against a lined Sunshine Coast sky. This artwork is intended to connect viewers with this iconic scene, give them a sense of pride in living on the Sunshine Coast and, sitting alongside the other traffic signal box, it is possible for viewers to connect Wurtulla with this beautiful scenery.

But now only 1 signal box remains:  "Our Glasshouse Mountains"

The cache is at the listed co-ordinates a short stroll from the signal box.

Original & 2nd version were nanos on the bicycle sign, but the 3rd instalment is a bit bigger and along the path a bit further. This should be a quick park and grab cache, but please take an extra minute to admire the nearby artwork.

Congratulations to Wesso Family for FTF!!!
