St. Colman's Church, Burravoe is the most northerly Parish Episcopal Church in Scotland. It was founded by John McQueer of Burravoe. The building was designed by RTN Speir, and built in 1900. Speir was an amateur architect, who designed several churches. He also owned the estate of Culdees in Perthshire.
The church is built in a symmetrical plain gothic style, with a leaded glazing and coloured glass. The building itself is attractive, and well placed in the middle of Burravoe. Additional features to note include a ship bell with the inscription "Diligent 1898" to the right of the entrance, and the painted timber altar front depicting the Worship of Heaven. There is also a folding gothic timber chair by Morris & Co.
It is worth exploring Burravoe if you have time - the coastline is beautiful, and the nearby Old Haa museum is certainly worth a visit to learn about local history. It is open most days from May to September, and it also contains a small art gallery, refreshments and toilet facilities.
