Geocache Description:

Richmond Hill is a historical community that has been occupied by humans continuously in one way or another for thousands of years. Today it is a "bedroom community" to Toronto and approximately half-way between the shore of Lake Ontario and the upper boundary of York Region. Despite the rapid growth in this area, preservation efforts have ensured that the local, living history continues. This puzzle cache highlights the timeline of history one can discover here.

Questions

A: What was the last name of Richmond Hill's first postmaster?

B: The first known inhabitants of this area of Ontario arrived here in 7,000-9,000 BC. Evidence of their being here has been scarce but confirmed with a few found artifacts including a small stone scraper. What is the name of the archaeological site where this artifact was found?

C: from 1906-1913, Richmond Hill had a creamery at 77 Arnold Crescent. What was the name of the creamery?

D: what was the profession of the person that the largest telescope in Canada, found in Richmond Hill, is named after?

E: a clapboard evangelical church constructed in 1857 still stands and is now a residence, moved to its current location in 1978 from where it was originally at the corner of Bathurst and Carrville. What is the street name of where this building is now?

F: the Metropolitan Radial Railway at one point at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries ran through Richmond Hill--straight up Yonge Street--with remnants of its power structures at Bond Lake in Oak Ridges still visible just off of the trail system there (along with a house my dad remembers people living in when he grew up in that area). It did not stop in Richmond Hill, however: the terminus stop was built in 1909 at which town?

Final Calculations:

  • calculate the digital root of each one-word answer separately
  • place those digits into the coordinates as follows: N43 52.(A+3)(B+1)C W079 26.(D-3)(E+3)(F+8)

The final is located in a Richmond Hill park. It is a tree climb, placed with the help of SuperKid, with stealth required. Good luck!
