Geocache Description:

GEOCACHING NIGHT IN EDMONTON

HAT TRICK

In ice hockey, a hat trick is when a player scores 3 goals in one game. When that happens it is common for the fans to throw their hats onto the ice to celebrate. The term actually came from the game of cricket when back in 1858 H. Stephenson knocked over 3 wickets with 3 consecutive deliveries and he was presented with a hat.

When I was young, the big hockey game was always on TV on Saturday night starting at 6 pm right after the Bugs Bunny and Roadrunner show. Hockey Night in Canada was a part of our country and this is definitely a hockey town so why not put out a geoart series to celebrate our love for hockey!! Each cache represents a different letter of the alphabet or one of the numbers from 0 to 10. For some of the letters/numbers there were a bunch of hockey terms to pick from so sometimes it wasn’t an easy choice but I tried to pick some of the more interesting ones. Most of these caches are in the Belgravia, McKernan and Windsor neigbourhoods and also Mayfair Park but there are a few outliers as well. Good luck finding the caches and have fun!!

** NOTE: THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES **

Also, because this series is all about hockey, why not test your hockey knowledge. In order to determine the correct coordinates for this mystery cache, you will have to correctly solve the following question:

The fastest hat trick in NHL history was scored by Bill Mosienko. How fast was it?

1. 55 seconds - N 53 31.268 W 113 31.541

2. 42 seconds - N 53 30.942 W 113 30.462

3. 30 seconds - N 53 31.184 W 113 32.240

4. 21 seconds - N 53 31.039 W 113 31.271
