Geocache Description:


ANCONA


Affacciata sul mar Adriatico, possiede uno dei maggiori porti italiani. Città d'arte ricca di monumenti e con 2.400 anni di storia, è uno dei principali centri economici della regione, oltre che suo principale centro urbano per dimensioni e popolazione.
Protesa verso il mare, la città sorge su un promontorio a forma di gomito piegato, che protegge il più ampio porto naturale dell'Adriatico centrale.
I Greci di Siracusa, che fondarono la città nel 387 a.C., notarono la forma di questo promontorio e per questo motivo chiamarono la nuova città Ἀγκών, 'Ankón, che in greco significa gomito.
L'origine greca di Ancona è ricordata dall'appellativo con la quale è conosciuta: la "città dorica".


MARMI E FOSSILI


Nella Zona Archi di Ancona, sotto lo sguardo vigile di Traiano, il manto di questo semplice marciapiede nonché affaccio sul porto nasconde un segreto, un viaggio all'indietro nel tempo di centinaia di milioni di anni…

Chiunque di voi, passeggiando per il centro storico di molte città o esaminando con attenzione la pavimentazione di alcuni edifici, e camminando vicino al GZ si questa EC potrete andare alla ricerca voi stessi di Fossili: varie specie di ammoniti e nautilus, simili a grosse chiocciole con diametri anche di venti o trenta centimetri; belemniti, dalla forma assai lunga e affusolata; conchiglie di molluschi, molto somiglianti agli esemplari attuali (tra cui spicca ad esempio il Pecten Jacobeus o cappasanta); e infine - sebbene decisamente più rari - coralli e crinoidi, di cui gli attuali ricci e stelle di mare sono lontani discendenti.


Nel Marmo possono esserci dei fossili?


Geologi e Marmisti utilizzano gli stessi termini, ma con significati ben diversi.
Per i Marmisti, “marmo” è sostanzialmente qualunque pietra Calcarea o Sedimentaria che possa essere lucidata quasi a specchio.
Per i Geologi, invece, un “marmo” è esclusivamente un Calcare che abbia subito qualche tipo di trasformazione fisico-chimica, come un forte riscaldamento o una forte pressione.
Come detto qui sopra il marmo si forma attraverso un processo di trasformazione metamorfico da rocce sedimentarie, quali il calcare o la dolomia, che provoca una completa ricristallizzazione del carbonato di calcio di cui sono in prevalenza composte e danno luogo ad un mosaico di cristalli di calcite o di dolomite (minerale). L'azione combinata della temperatura e la pressione, durante la trasformazione della roccia sedimentaria in marmo, porta alla progressiva obliterazione delle strutture e tessiture originariamente presenti nella roccia, con la conseguente distruzione di qualsiasi fossile, stratificazione o altra struttura sedimentaria presenti nella roccia originaria.


LE ROCCE


Le rocce presentano differenti origini. Alcune si sono formate dal raffreddamento di immense masse fuse provenienti dalla parte interna calda della terra. Altre sono state espulse violentemente da eruzioni vulcaniche. Altre ancora si sono formate per erosione delle rocce preesistenti.
Vengono classificate sia in base alla loro origine che attraverso la loro composizione chimica. Le rocce che compongono la crosta terrestre sono rispettivamente:
- magmatiche (o ignee) sono quelle che provengono dall'interno della terra. Possono essere effusive (o laviche) se provengono da eruzioni vulcaniche, intrusive (o plutoniche) se provengono da un lento raffreddamento di masse calde poste in profondità, fíloniane se si insinuano in "fratture" della crosta terrestre e raffreddandosi formano dei filoni (o dicchi).
- metamorfiche sono rocce già esistenti che, sottoposte a particolari fenomeni fisici ( riscaldamento, pressione) e chimici, ricristallizzano modificando il loro aspetto iniziale (metamorfosi) fino a formare rocce diverse da quelle originali.
- sedimentarie (quelle che ci interessano perchè sono le uniche che possono contenere fossili) sono il prodotto di disfacimento fisico e chimico di tutte la altre rocce e costituiscono accumuli di aspetto stratificato. Tale degradazione è un ciclo continuo che dura dalla formazione della crosta terrestre.

- A che livello con il resto della lastra è? Incavata, allienata o escrescente?

ANCONA

MARBLES AND FOSSILS

Anyone of you, walking through the historic center of many cities or carefully examining the pavement of some buildings, and walking near the GZ this EC you can go in search of Fossili yourself: various species of ammonites and nautilus, similar to big snails with diameters even twenty or thirty centimeters; belemnites, with a very long and tapered shape; shells of molluscs, very similar to the current specimens (among which stands out for example the Pecten Jacobeus or cappasanta); and finally - although decidedly more rare - corals and crinoids, of which the current sea urchins and stars are distant descendants.



Can there be fossils in the marble?


Geologists and Marmists use the same terms, but with very different meanings.
For Marmists, "marble" is basically any Calcare or Sedimentary stone that can be polished almost to a mirror.
For Geologists, instead, a "marble" is exclusively a Calcare that has undergone some kind of physical-chemical transformation, such as a strong heating or a strong pressure.
As mentioned above, marble is formed through a process of metamorphic transformation from sedimentary rocks, such as limestone or dolomite, which causes a complete recrystallization of calcium carbonate, of which they are mainly composed and give rise to a mosaic of calcite crystals. or dolomite (mineral). The combined action of temperature and pressure, during the transformation of the sedimentary rock into marble, leads to the progressive obliteration of the structures and textures originally present in the rock, with the consequent destruction of any fossil, stratification or other sedimentary structure present in the original rock.


ROCKS


The rocks have different origins. Some were formed by the cooling of immense molten masses coming from the warm inner part of the earth. Others have been violently expelled from volcanic eruptions. Still others are formed by erosion of existing rocks.
They are classified both on the basis of their origin and their chemical composition. The rocks that make up the earth's crust are respectively:
- magmatic (or igneous)are those that come from within the earth. They can be effusive (or lava) if they come from volcanic, intrusive (or plutonic) eruptions if they come from a slow cooling of hot masses placed in depth, fíloniane if they insinuate into "fractures" of the earth's crust and cooling down form strands (or dicchi ).
- metamorphicare already existing rocks that, subjected to particular physical phenomena (heating, pressure) and chemical, recrystallize by modifying their initial appearance (metamorphosis) to form rocks different from the original ones.
- sedimentary (those that interest us because they are the only ones that can contain fossils) are the product of physical and chemical decay of all other rocks and constitute accumulations of stratified appearance. This degradation is a continuous cycle that lasts from the formation of the earth's crust.
