Scanning the vast area in the Doringrivier Wilderness Area, I noticed something man made on my map. I did not expect to find what I did though, it looked smaller on Google Earth.
On the day of the cache placement, I knew it was going to be a very long hike to get to this spot, and I was not sure if it could be done in a day. I came prepared with a decent container though, and a name, Braveheart, for the cache. The further I ventured into this Wilderness, the more I started to get a sense of Into the Wild, from the famous movie. It felt surreal that this vast area could exist untouched, so close to civilization.
A series of way points with instructions were added, to guide the explorer here.
Access to this area is free. Sleeping over is not allowed, and thus I would recommend doing this cache in Summer when days are longer, and starting before sunrise. I logged around 37km for the day I went to place the cache.
Go prepared with water, food, warm clothing, and a torch. There is cellphone signal near the cache, and on a ridge about halfway.
