Geocache Description:

This series is a dedication to a previous series that commemorated the Penzance Trail, which runs through the northern section of Confederation Park.  Be sure to bring your own pen.

This area was once known as the Capitol Hill Subdivision, which was planned out by the Scott Brokerage Company in 1909.  Unfortunately, many of these lots did not take into consideration the rugged conditions of Rainbow Creek and were difficult to clear.  By 1914, many of the property owners defaulted on their taxes and much of the area was transferred to the City of Burnaby.  By 1922, Burnaby had accumulated such a large amount of property, and city officials decided that the area should be turned into parkland.  Various clubs, church groups and local businesses came together to raise funds and provide labour to clear the area.  On June 25, 1927, a great ceremony was held, and Confederation Park came into existence in honour of the Diamond Jubilee of Canadian Confederation.  The park has seen many changes since its inception, including the addition of a sports field.

The nearby Burnaby Central Railway opened its doors in 1993 and offers visitors the chance to step back in time as they ride on authentically designed miniature trains.
