The Bandit series of caches will take you round a series of information boards that tell you of the history of the little visited area around Dinas Mawddwy. Mallwyd and Dinas Mawddwy are steeped in history. This little known area is famous for "The Red Bandits of Mawddwy" (Gwylliaid Cochion Mawddwy), so named because of their red hair. They were cattle thieves and sheep stealers and terrorised the area to such an extent that scythe blades would be built into chimneys to stop them entering properties in the night! Eventually, after a notorious murder, the full force of the law was brought to the area and they were rounded up and hanged. More information can be read on the notice board found nearby.
