La Cappella di Sant'Irene fu costruita tra il 1858 e il 1859 in segno d'attestato a Dio per aver preservato dall'oidio i vigneti che rivestivano interamente la collina. L'iniziativa partì dal conte Filippo Saraceno di Torre Bormida che donò il terreno. Benedetta il 19 agosto 1860 dal parroco di San Giorgio, fu dedicata a Sant'Irene invocata dai contadini a protezione delle campagne. A partire dal 1863, due "massari" estratti a sorte da una lista di persone che si rendono disponibili, organizzano la Festa che tradizionalmente ricorre nella prima domenica di Agosto. I loro nomi con un breve resoconto del loro operato sono riportati, ininterrottamente dal 1928, su un apposito quaderno. La chiesa è aperta durante l'anno solo per funzioni liturgiche parrocchiali.
Nata come "proprietĂ comune", appartiene all'Associazione Confraternita di Sant'Irene, costituita nel 2006 per favorire l'amicizia tra gli abitanti della regione circostante, tutelare la dignitĂ storica ed artistica dell'edificio e fornire supporto ai massari.
Detta anche Superghetta per la sua forma che richiama la vicina basilica di Superga, è stata interamente restaurata a partire dal 2010 in occasione dei festeggiamenti per i 150 anni dalla sua fondazione, attingendo a fondi propri e ai contributi del Comune di Chieri, della Fondazione CRT e della Compagnia di San Paolo.
L'interno ha un altare a parete in legno elegantemente intagliato. Le pareti scandite da lesene e nicchie, ospitano statue in gesso e quadretti ex voto. La cupola raffigura un cielo stellato. Alla sommità del lanternino, una colomba. Il pavimento è interamente in pietra di Barge.
La cache è un piccolo bussolotto magnetico, contenente solo logbook ed istruzioni. BYOP! Portate la penna!

The Chapel of Sant'Irene was built between 1858 and 1859 as an expression of gratitude to God, for having preserved the vineyards that were coating the whole hill from mildew. Count Filippo Saraceno from Torre Bormida took the lead first and donated the land. Sanctified on 19th August 1860 by the priest of San Giorgio, the Chapel was dedicated to Sant'Irene, invoked by the farmers in order to protect their countryside. Since 1863 two estate managers, chosen by lot from a list of volunteers, organise a feast that traditionally occurs on the first Sunday of August. Their names, along with a brief account of their actions, are reported on a specific journal continuously since 1928. The church is open during the year only for worships and parish celebrations.
Born as "community property", it belongs to Associazione Confraternita di Sant'Irene, founded in 2006 in order to promote friendship among local citizens, to safeguard the historical and artistic dignity of the building and to support estate managers.
Also known as Superghetta for its shape that reminds the close Basilica of Superga, it was completely restored in 2010, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary from its construction, financed with own funds and other contributions coming from Comune di Chieri, Fondazione CRT and Compagnia di San Paolo.
On the inside there is a wooden wall altar gracefully carved. The walls, punctuated by pilaster strips and niches, host plaster statues and ex votos decorations. The dome depicts a starry sky and at the top of it there's a dove. The floor is completely made of Barge Stone.

La chapelle de Sainte Irène a été construite entre le 1858 et 1859 pour remercier Dieu d’avoir préservé de l’oïdium, ou maladie du blanc, les vignobles qui recouvrent entièrement la colline. Ce fut le Comte Filippo Saraceno de Torre Bormida à entreprendre la démarche en premier en faisant don du terrain. Bénie le 19 août 1860 par le prêtre de San Giorgio elle fut dédiée à Sainte Irène à qui les agriculteurs avait fait appel pour protéger les campagnes. Dès 1863 deux chefs-manse, tirés au sort dans une liste de personnes volontaires, organisent une fête qui traditionnellement se déroule le premier dimanche du mois d’août. Les noms des différents chefs-manse, avec un résumé de leurs actions, sont transcrits depuis 1928 sur un carnet. L’église est ouverte pendant l’année que pour des messes de la paroisse.
L’église est née comme propriété commune, mais maintenant elle appartient à l’Associazione Confraternita di Sant’Irene, créée en 2006 pour encourager l’amitié entre les habitants des région voisines, pour préserver la dignité historique et artistique de la construction et pour offrir du support aux chefs-manse.
Elle est nommée aussi Superghetta à cause de sa ressemblance avec la Basilique de Superga qui ne se trouve pas très loin. Elle a été entièrement rénovée à partir de 2010 à l’occasion des 150 ans de sa fondation grâce aux financements de la municipalité de Chieri, de la Fondazione CRT et de la Compagnia di San Paolo.
À l’intérieur on retrouve adossé à un mur un autel en bois finement entaillé. Les parois sont décorées avec des lésènes et présentent des alcôves accueillant des statues en craie et des ex-voto. La coupole représente un ciel étoilé avec au sommet de la lanterne une colombe. Le sol est entièrement en pierre Barge.
Le cache est une petite boite en métal qui ne contient que le logbook et les instructions. BYOP!! Portez avec vous un stylo! :)
