Geocache Description:

This cache is at the start of a short walk following the River Laver from the Weir through to it's confluence with the River Skell.

The river has its origins in a number of small streams which rise on the moors between upper Nidderdale and Kirkby Malzeard. The river continues to flow through a narrow wooded valley, before broadening at Laverton. The riverbanks again become densely wooded near Winksley, then become more open and shallow as the river approaches Ripon.

The flow of the river has been measured here since 1977. In June 2007 the highest river level of 1.9 metres (6 ft 3 in) over the weir was recorded, which was estimated to have a flow of 65 cubic metres per second.

The Cache
The cache is a small container hidden near to the river bank - please use caution when searching with small children. The area is popular with dog walkers and therefore stealth may be required. There are more caches along the River Skell and this makes an ideal starting point for a walk in to the centre of Ripon.

You MUST sign the cache log or provide evidence of your find. Your log may be deleted if you do not.
