FSC-2018 - The Bird House

Cache Details:

NO Night Caching. Hours: Dawn to Dusk

The cache is at the posted coordinates but you must solve the Field Puzzle to determine the lock combination:

Stand at the Listed Coords to determine the Lock Combination:
1st number = Number of shutters on the back of the historic Bird-Husbands House PLUS 3.
2nd number = Number of windows on the side of the house that you can see PLUS Number of doors on the back side of the house.
3rd number = Number of chimneys on the house MULTIPLIED by 5.

Checksum of 1st + 2nd + 3rd numbers = 50

THIS IS NOT a Yale or Master lock, try the opposite technique to open.....turn left right left for numbers and turn latch to the right and pull firmly.

Check the gallery for explicit instructions if you have problems opening this old post office lock.

Your caching name must be in the logbook to get credit for finding the cache.

NOTE: There is no need to go inside the Bird-Husbands House........the people working there will not be able to help you with the puzzle or the lock.

Description of Bird-Husbands House:
William Bird bought property from Gunning Bedford and in about 1816, constructed a log house, now part of the small section of the house. He farmed the land and his son Amos inherited the property in 1857.

Amos sold the farm to Andrew Husbands in 1868, who added the large side of the 2-1/2 story house and updated the rest. He was a successful farmer. The house stayed in the family hands, even as his widow Josephine remarried.

Alfred I. duPont purchased it in 1908 for employee housing while the duPonts resided in the Nemours Mansion.

The State of Delaware now owns and maintains the property. It is currently used for the offices of two nonprofit organizations: Delaware Greenways and the Friends of Wilmington Parks.
