Geocache Description:

Richmond was founded in 1818 and is the oldest community within the current City of Ottawa.

To celebrate Richmond's 200th birthday in 2018, we have created the Richmond Passport Tour!

The Richmond 200 Passport Tour gives you the opportunity to explore Richmond by finding the 10 caches hidden around our village. Use a Passport (printable here) to make rubbings of each of the 10 special symbols found in the containers. Collect all 10 rubbings and submit your completed Passport to earn one free Richmond 200 Commemorative Coin!

This building is one of the oldest in Richmond. It was originally built in the mid-1800s, and has been the location of a store, a bank, and a Lodge. It has housed meetings of the Loyal Orange Lodge (L.O.L.) #151 from 1849 to the present day.

A key figure in Richmond’s history was Maria Hill, who was the mother of Margaret Malloch, the first recorded owner of this property. Maria Hill’s ghost has apparently been seen inside the octagonal cupola at the top of the building.
