A day of caching with friends usually winds up looking for someplace to meet and share the days caching tales. This cache is dedicated to that last cache of the day and the camaraderie we all share!
This cache is part of an experiment that allows the use of Augmented Reality (AR) apps to find the cache. At the end of this experiment, Geocaching HQ will decide if this cache will be grandfathered or archived. Geocaching HQ reserves the right to archive this cache at any time if conditions change. You will be required to download a Groundspeak approved app to complete this cache. The app Metaverse for both IOS and Android can be download by clicking on your preferred OS in this paragraph. HP Reveal for IOS and Android is another app that is approved but I have seen difficulties with this app. 90% of the successful experimental AR caches (only a few out there) are using Metaverse.
When you first login to the free Metaverse app please specify a username when signing up (your caching name would be good) or else Metaverse will assign you a random goofy one! You can do this at anytime before doing the cache.
This AR experience is location based. You will need to go to the published coordinates to run and complete the AR "experience" It will only allow you to start the AR within +/- 100ft of these coordinates.
Procedure: Go to the published coords and start the the Metaverse app. In the "search Metaverse" field type JoenGPS. You may see the name more than once (a bug in the system), click on the bottom one (usually) and you will see an icon with the word GPS with the cache icon! Clicking on that icon will start the AR. Click on the cache name. If you are not at the published coordinates you will get a message "Not Nearby, You are not close enough to this experience to be able to open" Click OK and try again when your closer! As required by Groundspeak, you will still need a GPS capable device (GPS, Phone) to find the cache and sign the log! Ask me to discover the coin shown below if you see me on the trail! Good luck!
Notes: Remember this is an experiment and subject to the whims of technology, your make and model of phone and version of OS may give you a slightly different challenge hence the difficulty. Feel free to post "App use" feedback in your log. After finding the cache and signing the log I would quit the app as phone location based services are a substantial battery eater! They are working on that too!
