Geocache Description:

Wheldrake village featured prominently in my life as a teenager and now I find myself drawn back to it, but as a geocacher. I like church micros and Wheldrake seems to be entirely devoid of caches so a chance to kill two birds with one stone as it were! There has been a church building on this site since just after the Norman invasion of 1066. The current building consists of a sanctuary, nave, the west tower and a vestry. Only the ashlar tower survives from the original medieval building. Its lower level dates from the early fourteenth century with its upper structure added a hundred or so years later when the west end doorway was inserted. The big rectangular nave and the five-sided sanctuary are built of pale red brick with darker brick and stone dressings. Substantial repair work was carried out in 1741-2 then around 1778-9 the whole building apart from the tower was completely remodelled. The church was further extended in 1824 and then restored in Victorian times. There is parking adjacent the church and a regular but infrequent bus service. Please note that the church is unlocked and available to visit during DAYLIGHT HOURS ONLY. This is not a difficult find but it will require some stealth at certain times..... The full coordinates of the actual cache can be determined by studying the illuminated scroll inside the church that records the men from the parish who took service in the King's name during the Great War then applying the information to complete the following reference: N53°53.(Barker+Carr+Dooley+Hall)(Biscombe+Brown+Lancaster+Myers)(Hartas+Young) W0°57.(Watson+Fox+Bradley+Hick+Taylor)(Arnold+Bolton+Beilby+Jackson)(Pemberton-Gallagher). Checksum: the total of ALL coordinates is 60. You WILL need tweezers to extract the log and of course a pen. Enjoy!
