The Moon Grove is a pine grove in Jerusalem's Talbieh neighborhood, opposite the Jerusalem Theatre.
The grove serves as an active recreation site for the city's residents and includes activities for schools, nature groups, youth movements and Lag Ba'Omer bonfires.
The grove was planted at the end of the 19th century as a garden around the nearby lepers hospital.
Today the lepers hospital is called Beit Hansen and serves as a center for design, media and technology.
The hospital was established in the late 19th century to serve as an isolated hospital for people suffering from Hansen's disease (leprosy).
The disease "leprosy" mentioned in the Bible has nothing to do with the disease that is called nowadays.
Leprosy, also known as Hansen's disease, is an infectious disease named after the Norwegian researcher Gerhard Armor Hansen, who in 1873 identified the bacterium causing the disease.
The Ministry of Health has instructed Israel to use "Hansen's disease" instead of leprosy because of the negative connotation of leprosy.
It is recommended to visit Hansen House. Entrance is free and today, instead of lepers, there are artists who exhibit art of all kinds in temporary exhibitions and a coffee shop. Even if there is no exhibition, it is worth walking around and in the building.
חורשת הירח היא חורשת אורנים בשכונת טלביה בירושלים, מול התיאטרון.
החורשה משמשת כאתר נופש פעיל לתושבי העיר ומתקיימות בה פעילויות בתי ספר, חוגי טבע ותנועות נוער ומדורות ל"ג בעומר.
החורשה ניטעה בסוף המאה ה-19 לשמש כגן סביב בית החולים למצורעים שהוקם בסמוך.
כיום בית החולים למצורעים נקרא בית הַנסֶן ומשמש כמרכז לעיצוב, מדיה וטכנולוגיה.
בית החולים הוקם בשלהי המאה ה-19 כדי לשמש לאשפוז מבודד של חולי מחלת הנסן (צרעת).
למחלה "צרעת" המוזכרת בתורה אין קשר למחלה הנקראת כך בימינו.
צרעת, הידועה גם בשם מחלת הנסן, היא מחלה זיהומית הקרויה על שם החוקר הנורווגי גרהארד ארמור הנסן, שבשנת 1873 זיהה את החיידק הגורם למחלה.
משרד הבריאות הורה להשתמש בישראל בשם "מחלת הנסן" ולא צרעת בגלל הקונוטציה השלילית לשם צרעת המשמש בעברית במובנים שונים.
מומלץ לבקר בבית הנסן. הכניסה בחינם וכיום, במקום מצורעים ישנם אומנים המציגים אמנות מכל הסוגים בתערוכות מתחלפות ובית קפה (כשר) . גם אם אין תערוכה, כדאי להסתובב במבנה וסביבו, וניתן גם לעלות למגדל התצפית.
