Geocache Description:

This is the last in a series of 7 caches in a walk taking you along the Crumlin arm of The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. This series of caches has been created to get my Father-in-Law out and about within his local area. The cache can be found as part of the Evans Above series or on its own as an individual cache.

This cache is placed near a lovely, and often busy pub, which overlooks Risca Park (or Tredegar Grounds), so is popular with muggles - stealth will be required to retrieve the cache.

The park 'Tredegar Grounds' was donated to the people of Risca in 1897 by Lord Tredegar to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee and in return the 'Jubilee' statue was erected by public subscription 'in recognition of Lord Tredegar's generosity to the neighbourhood.' A small bronze statuette of Samson, a bearded figure dressed in a loincloth, stands on a circular stone plinth on a square stepped base.

You will need your own pen, and tweezers may come in handy for logging this cache. This cache is magnetic.

Free parking is available near the first cache (see waymarked point), and if you want to complete the whole series and don’t fancy the walk back, you can jump on the 151 bus at Risca Spar, which will take you back to near the first cache.

Permission for this cache kindly given by the Pub Management.
