Osoyoos is part of the British Columbia Wine Country surrounded by the only living desert in Canada. The town’s population of 5,085 swells in the summer months with visitors from elsewhere in British Columbia and neighboring Alberta, as well as other provinces in Canada and international visitors. The origin of the name Osoyoos was the word sẁiẁs (pronounced "soo-yoos") meaning "narrowing of the waters".
