The KDLT tower is 1,999 feet (609.2 m) tall making it one of a couple dozen guyed-masts that are taller than all existing skyscrapers in the United States (2018 statistics). Only three completed skyscrapers in the world are taller (2018 statistics).
- Burj Khalifa, 2,722 ft. (829.8), Dubai, United Arab Emirates
- Tokyo Skytree, 2,080 ft. (634 m), Tokyo, Japan
- Shanghai Tower, 2,073 feet (632 m), Shanghai, China
In retrospect, the tallest skyscraper in the United States in 2018, One World Trade Center in New York City, is shorter than the KDLT tower by 207 feet.
Construction of this tower was completed in 1998. Replacement of the antenna at the top was documented in the National Geographic Channel's reality TV show titled " Worlds Toughest Fixes"
A nearly 19 minute video of the digital antenna being inspected can be watched on YouTube here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40F8mALRukA
GZ is approximately 1,380 feet from the mast's foundation. That's equal to approximately 70% of the tower's height.
Interstingly, KDLT Tower's neighbor, the KELO Tower, appears larger but is actually 14 feet shorter. Some people speculate that is because the KELO tower body is wider and therefore appears taller.
