In occasione dei Geo Summer Games 2018, abbiamo deciso di piazzare la nostra prima cache!
La scelta di questo luogo deriva dal fatto che ho passato molto tempo della mia infanzia nel parco di questa Villa, dato che mia nonna è stata a lungo custode dell'edificio (e io avevo il privilegio di giocare nel parco anche durante l'orario di chiusura...).
Breve storia della Villa
Nel cuore della città di Samarate, sulla collina di Montevecchio, sorge la bella Villa Ricci, costruita alla fine dell’Ottocento (1898), come abitazione e dimora di rappresentanza dell’imprenditore Carlo Ricci (1853-1925). La storia di quest’uomo, nato e vissuto a Samarate, è stata ed è, ancora oggi, quella di un cittadino illustre che ha fatto la sua fortuna grazie al lavoro: da semplice garzone di bottega, Ricci diventò proprietario di un affinato cappellificio vicino a Monza. Lo stemma di Carlo Ricci non a caso è costituito da un ingranaggio industriale e da un leone rampante che tiene un nastro dalla scritta “Labor vincit omnia”. Fuori e dentro la Villa sono infatti riportate diverse iscrizioni in latino, come “Paratus semper doceri” e “Otio ex opera merito dicata”, che raccontano la scalata sociale di Ricci.
La Villa, progettata dall’ingegnere Cecilio Arpesani, sotto la supervisione del capomastro Giuseppe Caremoli, è un edificio in stile “neo-sforzesco”. La Villa è interamente circondata da un grande e lussureggiante parco che ospita una torretta belvedere detta “Caffè House”. Di fronte all'ingresso principale si trova il Giardino delle Balaustre, luogo nel periodo estivo di riti civili, meeting e buffet all'aperto.
Le vicissitudini economiche della famiglia Ricci portarono a un progressivo abbandono e deterioramento dell'abitazione che negli anni '70 del '900 fu infine acquistata dal comune di Samarate con l'intenzione di preservare quello che ormai era divenuto un simbolo della città.
La Villa oggi è sede di alcuni uffici pubblici, della biblioteca comunale mentre l'ampio salone del primo piano è divenuto luogo di incontri culturali, mostre e dei riti civili.

On the occasion of the Geo Summer Games 2018, we decided to place our first cache!
I choose this plase because I spent much of my childhood in the park of this VIlla, since my grandmother was a long time custodian of the building (and I had the privilege of playing in the park even during closing time...).
Brief history of the Villa
In the heart of the city of Samarate, on the hill of Montevecchio, there is the beautiful Villa Ricci, built at the end of the nineteenth century (1898), as a residence and representative building of the entrepreneur Carlo Ricci (1853-1925). Carlo Ricci, born and lived in Samarate, was and still is today an illustrious citizen who made his fortune thanks to his work: from a simple shopkeeper boy, Ricci became the owner of a hat factory near Monza. Is not a coincidence that the emblem of Carlo Ricci consists of an industrial gear and a rampant lion holding a ribbon with the inscription "Labor vincit omnia". Outside and inside the Villa are in fact reported several inscriptions in Latin, such as "Paratus semper doceri" and "Otio ex opera merit dictate", which tell the social ascent of Ricci.
The Villa, designed by the engineer Cecilio Arpesani, under the supervision of the master carpenter Giuseppe Caremoli, is a "neo-sforzesco" style building. The Villa is entirely surrounded by a large and luxuriant park that houses a belvedere tower called "Caffè House". Opposite the main entrance is the "Garden of Banisters", a place that ihosts weddings, meetings and open-air buffets during the summer.
The economic vicissitudes of the Ricci family led to a progressive abandonment and deterioration of the building that in the '70s was finally purchased by the municipality of Samarate with the intention of preserving what had now become a symbol of the city.
The Villa is now home to some public offices, the municipal library while the large hall on the first floor has become a place for cultural meetings and exhibitions.
