Geocache Description:

One of my first caches in Poppleton was hidden in the nearby BT phonebox (Canine minus three). Alas the box is no more, ripped out and unceremoniously carted off. Consequently this releases the village green and the nearby All Saints church as a new home for a simple off-set multi. The first building here was a chapel of ease built by the Normans and known as the Chapel of All Hallows. The original bulding was demolished in 1890 to make way for the existing church of All Saints which has retained a few of the thirteenth century fragments. It was designed by Charles Hodgson Fowler of Durham and consists of coursed, dressed stone with ashlar embelishment and plain tile roofs. A small, square tower sits at its western end. The church was modified between 1959-1972 to incorporate facilties expected by a modern congregation. However, the wooden pews from the original Victorian era survive. Close to the initial coordinates is a rather splendid headstone dedicated to the memory of Thomas Leadley and his wife Adelaide. Ignoring the month Thomas died, assign A to H to the numbers denoting when he passed away and his age. Cumulatively these numbers should total 33. The coordinates of the actual cache can be found by resubstituting the letters in the following equation: N.53°FD.EF(A+B-G) W001°(A-C)(C+D).(A+C)(C+H)B The cache is in a very open, exposed location with plenty of cars and muggles (perhaps in the houses adjacent) so stealth is required. You will need some sort of extraction tool as well as tweezers and a pen. Replace carefully and not too far otherwise it will be LOST FOREVER!

Photos of the church and the maypole on the green are always welcome and thank you to all who have done so.
