In 1874, Thomas Snell and James Sawyer planned a voyage to the New World. James went first. He lived and worked in many different communities. Eventually Sawyer met up with Snell in the small settlement then known as New London. They built a small wood frame building and started a business. Obviously they named it the Snell and Sawyer's Store. By the end of 1879, the business was prospering and catering to customers from the neighboring towns. They referred the location of the store as to Snellville in their advertising.
The City of Snellville received its charter from the General Assembly of the State of Georgia in 1923. Snellville's growth remained slow until the 1960s. As of the 2010 census, Snellville's population was 18,242. For more information go to Wiki or Snellville.org.
The former sign had a micro cache hidden on it, but they have both been destroyed. This geocache is also a micro and will take you to the new welcome sign. There is plenty of parking nearby. While you are here in Snellville, BE SOMEBODY!
