A common sight in the southern region of the continent, the unassuming Clouded Skipper is a small butterfly that is often overlooked.
Hues of purple and green may overlay the otherwise brown Clouded Skipper. It rests on flowers and branches with wings its forewings upright and its hindwings flat. In this multi-dimensional position, males sport a triplet of small white dots rests in the upper edge of the dorsal side (top) of the forewing. Two separate white dots are closer to the head. Females have white spots in the same areas, but they are larger and less defined.
This species of butterfly enjoys areas near water sources as well as drier woodlands and meadows. Adults drink nectar from flowers; caterpillars likely eat blades of weedy grass.
