Geocache Description:

This amazing location does not have signage until you enter so it is missed easily by passersby. It is located at the Piercefield Flow. There is a "no trespassing sign" which is ONLY for the Piercefiled Water supply located at this site. You may not enter the water supply facility but the rest of the area is public access with many picnic tables, a WWII memorial, a handicapped accessible overlook, a boat launch, and now a cool cache site!

The Piercefield Flow is a section of the Raquette River that has been flooded due to a hydroelectric dam. It makes for some outstanding flatwater paddling and fishing. This is a popular fishing spot. If you decide to canoe/kayak, there is a beautiful island off shore for a cool place to relax or paddle upstream to Setting Pole Dam. Please note: do not paddle down-stream; the power dam is located just a bit further down. The town was established in 1801 before the creation of St. Lawrence County. The 1933 closing of the International Paper factory led to an economic downturn in the town. As of the census[5] of 2000, there were 305 people residing in the town.

I hope you enjoy this little visited location and please see the WWII memorial located here in memory of those who fought for the good of humanity. I think of those soldiers often now, does history repeat itself? I look at my children and feel so lucky. I think of children who have been taken away by war, by dreams of walls and borders, does history really repeat itself???
