La tradizione racconta di pellegrini che transitavano sulla via franchigena di ritorno da Roma e diretti in Francia, nelle loro soste, interrogati dai nativi sulle loro esperienze di viaggio, parlavano di S. Liberata e della sorella, dei miracoli compiuti e si è cominciato a raffigurarla con due bambini in fasce tra le braccia e di affidare a lei le partorienti e tutti i piccoli.
L’attuale chiesa sorge sull'antica cappella di “Santa Croce”di cui si parla nel 1329. Il silenzio accompagna gli anni a seguire sino a una relazione del 1699 quando la cappella era ormai chiusa da diversi anni perché pericolante e quindi non più officiata.
Il rifacimento totale risale agli anni 1815-1820 quando è stata aggiunta di un’ampia sacrestia, usata come abitazione di eremiti che avevano il compito di custodi-sacrestani. Vivevano di questua, dei proventi dell’orto ricavato in una vigna, della legna e delle offerte dei pellegrini che visitavano la chiesetta per chiedere alla Santa aiuto e protezione.

The tradition tells of pilgrims who passed through the Franchise route back from Rome and headed to France, in their stops, questioned by the natives on their travel experiences, they talked about S. Liberata and his sister, about the miracles performed and began to portray her with two children in swaddling arms and to entrust the pregnant women and all the little ones to her.
The present church stands on the ancient chapel of "Santa Croce" mentioned in 1329. The silence accompanies the years to follow until a report of 1699 when the chapel was closed for several years because it was unsafe and therefore no longer officiated .
The complete reconstruction dates back to the years 1815-1820 when a large sacristy was added, used as a residence for hermits who had the task of custodians-sacristans. They lived on begging, the proceeds of the garden gathered in a vineyard, the wood and the offerings of the pilgrims who visited the church to ask the saint for help and protection.
