I have been lucky to have visited over 40 countries and 6 of the 7 continents.... sigh, one day Antartica, I'll get there! I lived the usual Kiwi youth....well I thought it was....Leave school, work for few years, save the money up, and buy that one way ticket to the UK. Luckily i did have British heritage, so yay , I had longer than usual visa. This allowed plenty of time to work,( yep, in pubs ),and see the world... but there's still so much out there... coming from Invercargill, I'd only travelled as far as Christchurch, and Wellington ,so it was that fresh faced country bumpkin that got off the plane in Los Angeles. Who doesn't want to have week there playing at Disneyland, Universal Studios, Knottsberry farm and all the Hollywood icons. The Flight from Auckland wasn't too horrendous, managed to sleep for some of it. Once we'd arrived in the old country we soon settled into a variety of pub jobs, I even ended up cooking for our last job- thanks to my baking skills.I was very popular and the barmen were always coming into the kitchen to try my sweet treats! Alas time was up on the Visa, and it was time to head home. BUT my love of travel was not stopped, I worked as a joy facilitator for one of the worlds best travel agencies for almost 19 years. I was good at my job, BUT not award winning. The the top consultants are always celebrated for their success, Las Vegas, Hong Kong and Dubai were some of the destinations to party. I did get to go to some beautiful places, some of my favorites was Rarotonga, and Honolulu- both very different , but great holiday spots. I enjoyed plenty of giggles at some airport city codes - Japan and India especially , even one on California. My job even took me to work in Australia - Canberra- 'The Nations Capital' - this was a great place to be a travel consultant, as everyone wants to leave here to holiday in Queensland or NZ or Asia or UK- anywhere away from Canberra in winter..its a cold place... So I have accumulated a long list of luggage labels and dream destinations. Although I'm no longer in the industry, I still think in codes when i look at travel programmes, or am sitting waiting for a plane.
