Geocache Description:



The National Trust owns and looks after the Golden Cap Estate. There are over 30 miles of footpaths. Golden Cap, the highest point on the South Coast at 626ft (191m), attracts more than 250,000 visitors each year.


This cache is the first of 7 (including the Bonus) and combines with the caches below to make a circular route around the the southern flank of Stonebarrow and Chardown Hills taking in a short section of the South West Coast Path. The complete walk is about 4 miles (7Km), includes one steep descent and finishes on a steady climb up from Westhay to Cain’s Folly. Geodogs are welcome but please keep them under close control as you may encounter grazing animals, ground nesting birds or other fauna.

The suggested starting point is the National Trust car park on Stonebarrow Hill (N 50 44.153 W 2 52.688). Please be aware parking charges apply if you are not a Trust member.

To find this cache head eastwards along the track. Depending on where along the hill you have parked you will pass nearby to 3 other caches before starting the gentle climb onto Chardown Hill.

Note: The difficulty for each of the caches is on an individual basis. The Terrain takes into account the whole route and all caches involved. In winter sections of the route can be muddy, especially in gateways. You will need a pen for the micro-caches and to find the bonus you will need to collect the clues along the way, don’t worry there is a decode sheet in Westhay Wander – 6 (GC7RMP7).The clues are pictograms so unless you have a photographic memory you will need a way to record them as you find them.

The cache is a small clip-top box, with log book, pencil, etc. There is room for small tradeables or travel bug.
