The High Dam was built around 1810. Below the dam is the foundation remains of a sawmill built sometime after 1858, and still in use after 1876. The mill was straddled over the stream. Whereas the dam provided a good head of water to power the saw, steam power might have been added later to supplement in dry conditions. We can imagine the logs being rolled into mill from the staging area on the east bank of the stream. The sawmill burned down in 1926.
