Geocache Description:


St Mary's is that great hulk of a church, positioned at the top of Bayswater road, which can be seen from Headington roundabout.
It is said to resemble “ the Ark coming to rest on mount Ararat”(what do YOU think? Let me know in your logs).
It was designed by the architect Nugent Francis Cachemaille-Day who was considered to be one of the most revolutionary architects of the 20th century. From the 1930s he became known for his churches, some of which are the most innovative ecclesiastical buildings of their time. Between 1931 and 1963 he designed at least 61 churches, many of which are now listed buildings.
St Mary's was consecrated in June 1958 but before the church was built, services had been held in many weird and wonderful locations including a hut used by the Foreman of Works during the building of Barton Estate.
The present church was funded in part by its parishioners who held fetes, bazaars etc.and a “buy a brick” campaign to raise 1/3 of the money needed for the building.
The published co ordinates take you to the front of the church but to find the cache you will need to answer the following questions (some of which you need to look up before visiting the church)

A busy spot at certain times of the day, especially school in and out times. You might need tweezers to extract the logbook.
