This cache is located in Stinchfield Woods.
Stinchfield Woods was deeded to the U-M in memory of the Jacob and Charles Stinchfield of Detroit. The Stinchfield brothers were descendants of the lumbermen that harvested Michigan’s giant white pine in the nineteenth century.
Public use of Stinchfield Woods may occur from dawn to dusk only. Further,
- No vehicles may park in front of the access gate
- No vehicles or bicycles are permitted on-site except those approved for research and teaching
- Dogs must be on a leash
- Cutting or collecting of plants and hunting or harming of vertebrates are not permitted

I really enjoy hiking at Stinchfield Woods and wanted to place a few geocaches to highlight some of the interesting places located within. This area is pretty off the beaten path for Stinchfield, although you can hear the passing traffic on Dexter-Pinckney Road.
Between 1947 and 1977, the school of forestry ran a sawmill here. Students worked and cut wood for the school. While the mill is gone, the foundation and some other signs of habitation are still around in the clearing. Feel free to look around, but beware of ticks and poison ivy in the summer.
The cache itself is a regular sized, metal, surplus store canister that is cammo'd but clearly marked as a geocache. There's plenty of room for trade items and trackables. Due to the tree cover I did my best with the coordinates. While they may not be dead on, they'll get you to the area and then the spot is pretty obvious. While this area doesn't attract the amount of traffic that other areas of the property do, remember to hide the cache as well or better than you found it.

P.S. There are other legal places to park to find the cache other than at the coordinates provided. However, if you really feel the need to park illegally, please do not add that to your log because I will delete any and all logs that mention you doing anything illegal.
