Welcome to Boone Creek
This picturesque site offers a 2 miles hiking trail, as well as opportunities for picnicking on the observation deck and wildlife watching through the viewing scopes
Situated in the upper reaches of the Boone Creek watershed, the 608 acre Boone Creek Conservation Area protects the headwaters, upland recharge areas, wetlands and creek corridors of the greater 13-mile Boone Creek.
To date, several known state endangered animal species are protected from having their habitat developed at Boone Creek Conservation Area including the American Bittern, Black-Crowned Night Heron, Osprey, Forster’s Tern, Upland Sandpiper, Blanding’s Turtle, the Slippershell Mussel and the state threatened Black-billed Cuckoo.
Located in the northwestern quadrant of the county, Brookdale offers a serene getaway from daily life. Visitors can enjoy a 1 mile mowed grass trail loop that transverses one side of the 11-acre pond, past a wildlife observation deck overlooking the water and up through a former pine plantation.
Trees of McHenry County
Most District sites contain trees and some kind of forested area. Boone Creek is no exception. The main loop takes you right thru a small patch of forest. Many species are native, some are not.
