Geocache Description:

Yep - you read that right. This is a "ghost" trailer park, but now is one of the city parks of Ogden, KS. Doubt that you will actually see or have any kind of paranormal experiences here - IF you do, you are on your own!!

Back when I arrived in the Fort Riley area way back in those ancient days of March 1993, there actually used to be a trailer park located here. The trailer park was literally destroyed during the "infamous" floods of 1993, as well as, many of the homes this side of town. If memory serves me correctly, this whole area of Ogden was pretty much flooded out all the way to the railroad tracks on Walnut Street - though may have been a little further or less.

Also, those newer looking apartments on the east side of KS HWY 18 - they were not there way back then. That was an open grassy/forested field area was also flooded out in 1993.

Today, the area has been converted into a park. There is a nice paved walking trail; benches; and an open field to play on.

When I arrived in the area in March 1993, it was not raining. It started to rain non-stop sometime around May 1993 and did not stop until sometime around September-October. I was still in the US Army then and my unit went to the National Training Center (NTC) Fort Irwin, CA, in June 1993. When we left, it was raining and, when we returned 30 days later, it was still raining!! Was kind of "odd" to be in constant rain; go to a desert environment without any rain; then return to constant rain. The "Floods of 1993" were supposedly some of the worst flooding in this part of Kansas in something like 50 years - have not experienced anything like that since.

Anyway, enough of that dribble!! The cache you will be searching for is a LARGE PILL BOTTLE camouflaged to blend in with the surroundings. Container is about 2 fists high AND has a secondary container inside to help protect the log from the elements. Also, for those that have multiple "phobia's", be forewarned that the hiding spot is inside a forested area. There will be: P.I.; spiders and/or webs; thorny vines; ticks; chiggers; and other creepy-crawlies!! Also, D/T ratings are more for warm weather months when all that current greenery is in place - may be a bit easier in cold weather months (so all you D/T "experts" hush up!!). Area may affect whatever electron devices that you may use - you have been warned!!!

THICK TREE roughly four-foot circumference that pretty much stands alone.

UPDATE: 11/05/22 - maintenance check. Original hiding spot had collapsed, and area has way more debris than when placed. Repositioned container close to coordinates but may have to spread out search. Retaining ORIGINAL D/T ratings so as NOT to interfere with people trying to fill in their fizzy-grids (know how that feels) so all you "D/T experts" - have a nice day if you do not like the ratings.
