The Wilkof Building has been anchoring this corner of downtown Canton for decades. Formely the R & J Furniture Company building, it is now home to Wilkof Industrial Supply, and Ron's Working Man's Store. Two stores in one, the Wilkof building itself is over 120,000 square feet of industrial supplies for many industries, and a clothing store for working men too! I always find the place to be a grown man's toy store, and can never spend just a minute or two browsing. The cache is placed with permission from the property and store owner, and the staff all know what Geocaching is - so you may be being watched! (One of the staff is a CO and Geocacher - come in and say hi!)
The cache is located off Old Cherry Ave SE, which is a street that was here long before the viaduct (New Cherry Ave & Bridge) and before route 30 even came through this area. This stretch of the old road now acts as a parking area, as it is a Dead End street. The cache is marked Handicap Accessable. There can be quite a few muggles here - so watch out for them.
The cache is not accessable from the Cherry Ave bridge! Getting there is half the fun! Cherry Avenue and Walnut Avenue are both one way streets, so be careful to wisely choose your path to the cache! Cheat - Use 3rd Street SE to Savannah Ave SE to 4th or 5th SE. (Both bring you to the same place!)
The view of downtown Canton from here is fabulous, with Stark State College across the street, and the taller downtown buildings in view, it offers a different perspective of the downtown area from the southeast side of town. The cache is not on the building or in the flower pots!
This cache is placed in honor of sneakup's 2000th cache find, which she received while here in Canton this Spring on the way to the Geo-Woodstock Giga event in Cincinnatti at the end of May. She introduced me to this Geocaching hobby, and I will forever be grateful to her for it!
