Geocache Description:

This cache is to honour the memory of Cpl. David Braun. My cousin Patricia (Patty) lost her son at the age of 27 on August 22, 2006 after spending only 3 weeks in Afghanistan. He was killed when a suicide bomber detonated explosives beside a convoy that David was part of in Kandahar. He was the 27th of 158 Canadian Armed Forces personnel that lost their lives trying to bring peace and security to the people of Afghanistan, something we in Canada can thankfully take for granted.

David joined the 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in February of 2002. He was stationed in Winnipeg and then later in Shilo Manitoba. He served a peace keeping mission in Bosnia in 2003.

David wanted to join the Canadian Armed Forces since the age of 12. He loved all things military, following in the foot steps of his grandfather Connie who served overseas during World War II. When David was home on leave, he would go back to his school in Raymore to share stories about his life and experiences of his time in the Canadian Army.

David left behind a younger sister, 2 younger brothers and a daughter who will no longer be able to experience his dry sense of humour, his intense loyalty, his love of teasing and mostly his HUGE smile.

David’s mother Patty was honoured to be chosen as the 2011 National Silver Cross Mother. She laid a wreath in Ottawa on Remembrance Day at the National War Memorial, on behalf of all Canadian mothers that lost a child in the Canadian Armed Forces.

As with all caches, please be respectful of your surroundings while searching for this cache. David’s resting place is in the South East corner of this beautiful cemetery, just meters from the cache’s location.
