Lake View

Don Carter State Park sits along the northern reaches of Lake Lanier, offering visitors a chance to explore quiet coves, wooded hillsides, and scenic overlooks along the shoreline.

This cache is located just off the Lakeview Loop Trail, a paved trail that winds through the forest before opening to views of the lake. Along the way, hikers pass through stands of hardwood forest where occasional glimpses of the water appear through the trees.

As the name suggests, a short walk from the trail reveals a peaceful view of Lake Lanier. It’s the kind of place where many visitors naturally pause for a moment, looking out across the water before continuing along the trail.

The lake visible from this overlook is part of the reservoir created when the Chattahoochee River was dammed at Buford Dam in the 1950s, forming the 38,000-acre Lake Lanier that stretches through this region of north Georgia.

There are two ways to approach this cache:

Approach 1 (Trail Access)
Follow the paved Lakeview Loop Trail from the trailhead until your GPS directs you into the woods. Ground zero is downhill from the trail approximately 100 feet.

Approach 2 (Water Access)
Adventurous paddlers may also approach from the lake. Pull your kayak or canoe along the shoreline and hike up the hill toward the cache. Using this approach significantly increases the terrain rating.

After signing the log, return the container as found and take a moment to enjoy the quiet lake view before continuing your hike.
