Camp Milton Historic Preserve was a Confederate fortification built along the west bank of McGirts Creek in the Spring of 1864. Over 8,000 troops were Jacksonville's first line of defense against the Union forces. Camp Milton was named in honor of John Milton, Florida's governor during most of the Civil War. Camp Milton Historic Preserve is part of the Timucuan Parks Foundation.
