LA CROIX Colonel Detrie (1914) – HET KRUIS Kolonel Detrie (1914)

This cross was erected along the road from Ochamps to Bertrix, on the edge of the Forest of Luchy. It was honored in honor of Colonel Henry Detrie, commander of the 20th regiment of the French Infantry, and of the soldiers who fell at his side. On August 22, 1914, the colonne of Colonel leaves Detrie Bertrix. They migrate through the forest of Luchy, to the northern edge of the forest, where they try to stabbing in the direction of Ochamps. But the Germans, who occupied the village and the surrounding, prevented that. Under the fierce fire of the enemy, the ranks of the French Battalion, which are impossible to continue, thin themselves quickly. Moreover, they are surprised by a German attack ⤓ a real ambush in the forest ⤓ which forces them, in the greatest disarray, to blow the retreat in the direction of Herbeumont.

Cette croix de pierre se dresse le long de la route d'Ochamps à Bertrix, à l'orée de la forêt de Luchy. Elle fut élevée à la mémoire du colonel Henry Detrie, commandant le 20e régiment d'infanterie français, et des soldats tombés à ses côtés. Le 22 août 1914, partie de Bertrix, la colonne du colonel Detrie traverse la forêt de Luchy jusqu'à sa lisière nord où elle tente de déboucher en direction d'Ochamps. Mais les Allemands, qui occupaient le village et ses alentours, l'en empêchent. Sous le feu violent de l'ennemi, les rangs des bataillons français, incapables de progresser, s'éclaircissent rapidement. De plus, une offensive allemande, véritable guet-apens, vient les surprendre dans la forêt et les force à se replier vers Herbeumont dans le plus grand désordre. La croix du colonel Detrie est accompagnée d'un panneau explicatif des combats de Luchy et d'Ochamps.

Dit kruis werd opgericht langs de baan van Ochamps naar Bertrix, aan de zoom van het Bos van Luchy. Het werd gehuldigd ter ere van Colonel Henry Detrie, commandant van het 20e regiment van de Franse Infanterie, en van de soldaten die aan zijn zijde sneuvelden. Op 22 augustus1914, verlaat de colonne van Colonel Detrie Bertrix. Ze trekken door het bos van Luchy, tot aan de noordelijke bosrand, waar ze proberen door te steken in de richting van Ochamps. Maar de Duitsers, die het dorp en de omstre-ken bezet hebben, beletten hen dat. Onder het hevige vuur van de vijand, dunnen de rangen van het Franse Bataljon, die onmogelijk nog kunnen voorttrekken, zich snel uit. Bovendien worden ze verrast door een Duitse aanval ⤓ een echte hinderlaag in het bos ⤓ waardoor ze gedwongen, in de grootste wanorde, de aftocht moeten blazen in de richting van Herbeumont.
