武家屋敷の町並みは、石垣と道の中央を流れる水路が特徴です。
①石垣には雲仙火山から噴出した火山岩が使用されています。
②水路を流れる水は、火山灰層などが堆積した難透水層と、水を通しやすい砂れき層が交互に重なった帯水層の間を通って流れ出てきたものです。
Features of townscape of Samurai Residence are beautiful stone walls and water current situated on the center of the roads.
①The stones using the wall are volcanic rock derived from Unzen volcanoes.
②The water which flowing through the waterway went between the strata where varied in two and flowed out. These are, the aquifer where the cheap grit layer was piled up through a difficulty permeable layer, and the water which the volcanic ashes layer deposited in turn.
雲仙は有史以来3回の活発な噴火活動を行いました。特に1991年に発生した大火砕流は43人の死者・行方不明者を出す大惨事となり、島原に大変な災害をもたらしました。しかし、江戸時代からこの場所のように火山の産物を利用することも僅かながらありました。武士達は火山と上手に付き合いながら生活していたのです。
Unzen volcano erupted on three times in recorded history. The large pyroclastic flow which occurred in 1991 in particular with a catastrophe to start 43 dead people, missing people. It brought a great disaster in Shimabara City. However, there was a few it, but Samurai of the Edo period used a stone wall and the spring which were the product of the volcano.
石垣に使用されている石は「デイサイト」と呼ばれる火山岩です。デイサイトはマグマが急速に冷えてできた岩石のうち、やや白っぽい石のことです。比較的粘り気が高く、二酸化ケイ素(シリカ)をやや多く含み、黒雲母・角閃石・輝石・斜長石・石英等を含みます。
火山岩は急速に冷えたため結晶が成長する余裕がなく、小さな結晶の集合体となるか、結晶になる余裕もなければ非結晶質（ガラス）となります。これを「斑状組織」といいます。（下の図参照）
The stone used for a stone walls are volcanic rock called "Dacite". "Dacite" is the rocks which magma gets cold rapidly. It is a slightly whitish stone. "Dacite" is high comparative stickiness, and includes slightly a lot a silicon dioxide (silica) and includes biotite, amphibole, pyroxene, plagioclase, quartz.
Because the volcanic rock got cold rapidly, crystal does not grow up. Therefore, it is with a non-crystalline material (glass) whether the volcanic rock becomes the aggregate of the small crystal. It's called "porphyritic texture". (cf. next figures)

Please observe the stone walls at GZ. The stone which hid red has a blackish mineral small lump.What kind of shape does this have ?
Please answer it refer to next photographs.
TASK 2
この石垣は下段・中段・上段で石の形が違います。中段（灰色で隠した部分）には何角形の石が多いですか？
This stone wall has different stone shapes in the lower, middle, and upper sections. What these has shape? Are these square? pentagonal? hexagonal?(the part hidden in gray)?
TASK 3
あなたは、この石は固いと思いますか？それとも柔らかいと思いますか？
その根拠は何ですか？あなたの考えを述べてください。
Do you think that this Dacite is hard ? Or do you think that it is soft ?
