Geocache Description:

Travel back in time to visit this historic cemetery at the heart of Gwinnett. This church opened its doors in 1823 with Reverend Rememberance Chamberlain, and its cemetery reflects its long history. After finding the cache, spend some time visiting with a few of its more than 500 residents, such as William Carter, the first person buried in Fairview; Mary Ellen Williams, the first woman to hold church office at Fairview; James S. Russell, the builder of Fairview in the late 1820’s; Mary Reid, one of the thirteen founders of Fairview; Anna Craig, who left much of her estate to care for Fairview’s cemetery; and John Alexander, a veteran of the Revolutionary War. The area by the tree near the road is home to unmarked slave graves.
