Site history - The Lion's club held fund raisers to purchase the Burr farm in 1964, dug the small lake, created a community recreational park, and donated it to the town of Pawling, NY. On May 23, 1965, at 4:30 PM 1200 people gathered for the ceremony to dedicate the park to famed war correspondent and town resident, Edward R. Murrow. The Hudson Valley Philharmonic Orchestra provided an outdoor Pops concert. Trails connect to the adjoining Lakeside Park, which also has a rich history as a former YMCA, WW II Air Force respite center, and the site of the Hudson Valley Agricultural Fair. In appreciation of the relaxation this park has provided, this geocache theme is oriented towards the park, how it is used, and to the memory of the namesake for which the park is dedicated. With a close proximity to the Appalaciam Trail, hikers often rest and refresh at this park. July Fourth festiviies annually drew large crowds. The brick building housed the concession stand. Congratulations to grumpymanct for the FTF along with liliaclilly!
