Croatian region of Međimurje was the target of neighboring countries expansionists for centuries, and was always successfully brought back to Croatia. After the start of Nazi Germany attack on Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Međimurje was occupied by Hungary as well. During the occupation, partisans tended to liberate Međimurje of German and Hungarian occupiers. Partisans of Međimurje had their first meeting on JUNE 28th 1941 in this woods, where they decided to start propaganda and sabotage activities in order to liberate Međimurje of foreign occupiers.
Near the monument was a grave of unknown soldier, but the exact location is forgotten.
